Baldur’s Gate III Delayed, Misses August 2020 Early Launch

Anticipated RPG Baldur’s Gate III has been delayed by Larian Studios, with the game’s first act releasing in Early Access at a later date this year.

Originally set for an August 2020 release, Baldur’s Gate III was still complete enough for players until development was set back by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to Larian Studios, the new launch date isn’t that far off while a panel would be held by Geoff Keighley to reveal it on August 18, 2020.

Good news and bad news. BG3 won’t hit August, but it’s just around the corner. We’ll be announcing the release date, as well as big news on the Panel From Hell alongside @geoffkeighley, @LarAtLarian and the Larian crew. Tune in Aug 18th. https://t.co/S1RlVpJ8yw pic.twitter.com/NCkrnHHpH0

The first Act of the game will also be bigger than Divinity: Original Sin 2, which had an Early Access launch of its own in 2014. Baldur’s Gate III also includes extensive freedom with gameplay after players drop into the world as a customizable character in the Forgotten Realms. But the world might feel a bit more under crisis with the Mind Flayer turning NPCs into evil minions.

Its preview in February 2020 also showed off the game’s new Divinity 4.0 engine, which gave the familiar locales a high-end refresh. This also translates over the game’s enemies, which players will have to tackle with their new party in quests.

But players will have to wait a bit longer to play the RPG sequel, and can tune into the official Panel From Hell for Baldur’s Gate III on August 18, 2020 at 10am PT/ 1pm EST over their website.
