DC Fandome’s Suicide Squad panel has the cast and writer/director, James Gunn, show up to play some games and chat comic book trivia, but most importantly, to give us the cast announcements we’ve all been waiting for.
Without any extra pomp and circumstance, check out the video below for the full cast roll call.
Returning to their roles, we have:
Viola Davis as Amanda Waller
Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg
Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn
Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang
Then, the newcomers now announced for the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel:
Michael Rooker as Savant
Flula Borg as Javelin
David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man
Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2
Idris Elba as Bloodsport
Mayling Ng as Mongal
Peter Capaldi as The Thinker
Alice Braga is Solsoria
Pete Davidson as Blackguard
Sean Gunn as Weasel
Nathan Fillion as TDK
Juan Diego Boco as Luna
And last but not least, John Cena has been confirmed as Peacemaker
The gang came to play with introductions showcasing incredible character art and smiles ear to ear about their new spots in the skwad. Playing some trivia games to introduce themselves to the crowd, Pete Davidson showed off some of his comic book knowledge, and Cena, clad in a bespoke blue suit, confirmed he really is the nicest superhero around.
James Gunn came with more than any of us expected, including a reel of behind the scenes footage from shooting. In it, we see almost all the characters in costume (Harley Quinn is in some wicked black and red like her original self) and Cena described his role as Peacemaker as a “douchey Captain America.” The appetite for twists on everyone’s favourite boy scout is pretty high, and it’ll be a blast to see what Cena brings to this newly announced role, clad in a chrome helmet.
Producer, Peter Safran, described the film’s vibe as a 1970’s war movie, combined with the sensibilities of James Gunn. Lots of the shots included in the reel certainly make it look like a throwback to war films, only this one is layered with some brightly coloured super villain suits.
According to writer/ director, James Gunn,“It’s gonna be different from any superhero movie ever made.” I guess we’ll all find out in 2021.
