The first trailer for Justice League: The Snyder Cut has been officially revealed and it’s full of previously unseen footage.
Scored to Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, the two-minute trailer shows off a noticeably more serious tone than 2017’s theatrical release. The film will be split into four-one-hour parts, released one at a time and collected once all the parts are released. The trailer shines a spotlight on all of the Justice League members, giving them each a moment to shine.
Starting with Superman, he is shown in a silhouetted costume, reminiscent of his look in the Death and Return of Superman arc from the comics. Wonder Woman is shown interacting with a little girl who she may have just saved from some sort of danger, and they’re both happy to see each other.
Aquaman is very much the drunk outcast that was established in the 2017 cut, although he doesn’t seem to be cracking many jokes this time around. With Vic Stone (Cyborg) we finally get to see a clip of him playing football and carrying his team to victory, as well as a shot that appears to show his dad getting killed in a lab explosion.
Batman is unsurprisingly dark and brooding, and very much carries the burden of trying to be a source of inspiration in the same way that he views Superman. The Flash saves someone, who appears to be Iris West from a potential car accident and the two share a moment where they are staring into each other’s eyes.
Lastly, and perhaps most surprisingly, the trailer gives a glimpse of Darkseid, who was supposed to be the main villain in the follow-up Justice League movies that never happened. He starts off the trailer and is shown briefly raising his weapon, about to strike an unknown enemy. It will be interesting to see if this version of Darkseid will carry on into future movies or if it will only serve as a bit of an easter egg housed in the Snyder Cut.
Justice League: The Snyder Cut is set to release at some point in 2021 on HBO Mac and is currently in production. For more DC Fandome coverage check out the latest footage from Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad.
