Disney has announced the second season of The Mandalorian will premiere during October 30, 2020, marking the return of Star Wars‘ most prolific bounty hunter to date (and his green adopted son).
In a tweet from the show’s account, a new logo was shown to contrast the first season’s desert-saturated vibe. This time, the unnamed Baby Yoda is seen walking with Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian who sports a (slightly) upgraded Beskar armor as shown in the season one finale. The Star Wars trademark is also shown over the show’s name to cement it as a new piece of canon lore in the Outer Rim.
Building on the first season’s finale, Dinn Djarin/The Mandalorian is given a new mission by his armorer to deliver Baby Yoda back to his species and to learn more about the force-sensitive nature that binds the Star Wars galaxy together. Since the story treads towards Jedi-territory, viewers of Season 2 would get a surprise appearance from Ahsoka Tano, a former jedi and The Clone Wars/Rebels survivor. She will also be played by Rosario Dawson in her first-ever live action appearance of the Togruta.
Katee Sackhoff is also returning from her Clone Wars role as Bo-Katan Kryze, a Mandalorian who defended her home planet across Season 7 against Darth Maul and Gar Saxon in TCW Season 7. It’s also worth noting Sackhoff will be bringing her animated character into a live-action setting as well (under the same actress).
Somehow, Boba Fett will also return from Return of the Jedi‘s sarlaac pit. Presumably dead since the original trilogy, Fett will be reprised by Temuera Morrison, the actor who played bounty hunter Jango Fett and Boss in renowned FPS Star Wars Republic Commando. He will be on the hunt for his iconic green Mandalorian armor, stolen by Timothy Olyphant’s character Cobb Vanth who comes straight from the Star Wars: Aftermath series of canon books.
Fans of the first season will also see more of Giancarlo Esposito as Grand Moff Gideon, the leader of an Imperial Remnant group who hired The Mandalorian to secure Baby Yoda in the first season. It’s likely they’ll be hot on their trails as they try harnessing Baby Yoda’s force powers to re-establish power in the galaxy. The final shot of season one also included the mythical Darksaber from The Clone Wars and Rebels, suggesting many elements of the animated series will be crossing over in epic prequel-to-sequel style action.
The Mandalorian Season 2 will start streaming episodes over Disney+ on October 30, 2020. It’s unclear if the show packs multiple episodes on the first day or if it follows a weekly schedule from Season 1.
