Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox Series X and Series S consoles are sharing the same greyed-out treatment across retailers, with inventory running out worldwide in just 24 hours or less.
According to Xbox in a tweet, its console stocks saw a “record-breaking demand” while telling prospective owners to keep an eye out for more inventory at the dawn of launch.
This also comes off the heels of Sony, who recently apologized to customers for not being able to pre-order a PS5 console amid overwhelming demands. The hype was also fueled through retailers announcing their pre-order dates, leading stocks to dwindle from seconds to minutes when they were live.
But Xbox had also disclosed their pre-order dates earlier this week, while promising a better chance to secure their Xbox Series X or S on Day One by subscribing to retailer newsletters. These would also send notifications about their pre-orders, given out as limited spots.
According to GamesIndustry, games analyst and Nintendeal founder Andrew Alerts found a 750% spike of interest for the Xbox One X current generation console, suggesting other shoppers were fooled into taking the next-gen jump. It’s worth noting both the One X and One S were both discontinued by Microsoft near the end of its life cycle.
The Xbox Series X and S are launching on November 10, 2020.
