The CEO of eSports at Activision Blizzard and Overwatch League (OWL) commissioner has left his role for other internal opportunities.
According to Games Industry, a spokesperson stated Pete Vlastelica would still be working on “new entrepreneurial ventures” with Activition Blizzard at the end of the OWL Finals this year. He was also a prime coordinator behind much of the OWL tournaments, including marketing and localization of eSports events for teams and audiences worldwide.
“He was instrumental in building the company’s esports business and driving the industry forward, and we thank Pete for his contributions and impact on our business over the last four years,” Activision Blizzard wrote.
While Vlastelica has abruptly left his role, there were no immediate announcements on his replacement. The eventual successor would continue Vlastelica’s job as eSports CEO and commissioner since 2016. This was also when Vlastelica took over for Nate Nanzer before he left with an opportunity with Epic Games.
Much of the OWL live events have been delayed or moved digitally amid the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, but continues supporting teams through social media and direct integration with Overwatch to browse games.
