Explore a Dual World This December in The Medium

Xbox Series X|S early adopters can take a trip into the spirit world with The Medium, a new third-person psychological horror game from Bloober Team. The Swedish development team behind Blair WitchObserver and Layers of Fear confirmed today that their new title will launch exclusively on the next-gen console (and PC) within its first month.

Players assume the role of Marianne, “a medium hounded by visions” who will use her psychic powers to navigate both the real world and spirit world simultaneously, solving puzzles across them. She will also have to “survive encounters with The Maw – a monster born from an unspeakable tragedy.”

The Medium‘s haunting aesthetic is inspired by the “dystopian surrealist” artwork of Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński. Complimenting this is a “dual score soundtrack” by Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka and Bloober Team’s own Arkadiusz Reikowski. Yamaoka’s work across Konami’s horror franchise definitely suits Marianne’s journey through a grim, post-apocalyptic hellscape.

The Medium will launch on December 10th on Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games, and Microsoft Store, and is available for preorder now. Those who preorder on Steam can also download “Marianne’s Theme,” composed by Reikowski, as featured in the release date trailer. Bloober Team also recently released a cinematic trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2020, teasing the horrible Maw (voiced by Troy Baker).

Bloober Team also announced this week that Blair Witch is headed to Occulus headsets October 29. Unfortunately The Medium‘s spooky world will not be available for VR exploration at this time.
