Cyberpunk 2077 Sees Last-Minute Delay

A further delay for one of Holiday 2020's biggest games

The saga of Cyberpunk 2077‘s development has taken another interesting turn. Just three weeks before its launch date, CD Projekt RED has delayed its upcoming blockbuster by another three weeks. The game will now launch on December 10.

Joint CEOs Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwiński broke the news on the game’s social media today, citing the need to “prepare and test 9 versions of it (Xbox One/X, compatibility on Xbox Series S|X, PS4/Pro, compatibility on PS5, PC, Stadia)… while working from home.”

“Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly.”

Back on October 5, Badowski announced the game had gone gold, but now admits they “undercalculated” the time they would need to test the game works to its full potential on all platforms and prepare the improvements distributed in its Day 0 patch. A week prior to the gold announcement, it came to light that CD Projekt Red had mandated “crunch” six-day work weeks for the development staff, despite earlier promises to avoid such a situation.

“We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you’ll fall in love with,” Badowski and Iwiński said.
