Madden 22 Gets First Gameplay Trailer, Two Cover Athletes

EA has officially revealed the first look at Madden NFL 22, which will launch on August 20, 2021, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and PC.

In a change from the norm, Madden NFL 22 will actually feature two different athletes on the cover, Tom Brady from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patrick Mahomes from the Kansas City Chiefs. Interestingly, both athletes have actually been featured on a cover before, Brady on Madden 18 and Mahomes on Madden 20.

The new trailer focused on a few new features coming to this year’s version of Madden, and in particular the next-gen versions. Something called Dynamic Gameplay will help bolster the atmosphere and fluidity of matches, with crowds of fans dynamically reacting to how things play out. Each stadium also features a new Home Field Advantage modifier that can shift things ever so slightly in the home team’s advantage.

One of the other bigger changes is what EA is calling Next Gen Stats Star-Driven AI. Here’s more on that system from the game’s official site, “Power by Next Gen Stats, the new Star-Driven AI in Madden NFL 22 enables the smartest gameplay experience ever. Integrated with real-world data, the new AI is built to emulate player and team tendencies that will evolve throughout the season as teams’ stats change.”

There are plenty of other changes coming to the game’s various modes, like being able to make halftime adjustments to Superstar X-Factors in Ultimate Team, or a player class system in Face of the Franchise. There will also be unified progression for the player-created character in Face of the Franchise and The Yard.

On top of the standard edition, Madden NFL 22 will have an MVP Edition and a Dynasty Edition, that provide players with three-day early access, as well as a variety of digital and currency bonuses. EA Play is returning on July 22, 2021, where fans can likely expect to see more of Madden NFL 22 in action.
