Christiane Louise Killing Sees Man Arrested

A man has been arrested by authorities in connection with the killing of voice actor Christiane Louise, who is most known for voicing Brazil’s Cortana in the Halo franchise.

Last week the voice acting world lost an icon. Christiane Louise, 49, was found dead in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with lacerations on her body.

The death of Christiane Louise, the voice actor known for numerous roles including Mercy in Overwatch, and Cortana in the Halo franchise was announced and mourned by another voice actor, Mário Tupinambá Filho, on Instagram where he posted a touching tribute.

The authorities apprehended Pedro Paulo Goncalves Vasconcellos da Costa, 27, in connection with the murder. Louise was apparently housing da Costa weeks before the crime, during a mental illness episode. According to a report in a Brazilian newspaper O Globo, da Costa had initially denied having contact with Louise since June 17 and suggested she would be out of town for an extended period, but on further questioning, he changed his tune.

da Costa confessed to the murder and claimed to be acting in self-defense. Law enforcement also noted that da Costa was assisted by his mother and another unnamed accomplice to hide her body. Usually in homicide cases for a murder to take place, a malice afterthought must be held by the killer. This includes “the intent to resist lawful arrest,” which could be the definition of hiding a body from authorities. The mother of da Costa has still not been found.

There has been a large amount of support from fans on social media in support of the voice actor. Most including usage of Mercy’s catchphrase when resurrecting a fallen ally #heroesneverdie has been used in remembrance.

The gaming world lost a true pioneer in the industry with such an accomplished actor, and justice will be served.
