Emmy nominated actor, Michael K. Williams, most known for his role on The Wire has been found dead. He was 54-years-old.
Michael K. Williams was found dead in his NYC apartment. He was an actor who appeared on award-winning shows such as HBO‘s The Wire, and Boardwalk Empire in polarizing roles that stuck with his audience long after the shows came off the air.
His longtime representative, Marianna Shafran of Shafran PR confirmed the passing of the beloved actor in a statement “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy-nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this insurmountable loss.”
The acting world lost a true visionary, as his presence on screen always seemed to grab the limelight. Notable Hollywood peers showed up with an outpouring of support on Twitter.
As an Emmy nominated actor on many different series’ Michael K. Williams leaves a void that will be felt by the big screen for a long time. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said in a statement that “Brooklyn is mourning one of its native sons.” Adams continued “Michael K. Williams was a generational talent and a tireless advocate for social justice,” in reference to the actor as more than just an entertainer.
Williams was a man of many talents, as he had also created a documentary called Raised in the System. This documentary outlined harsh truths of the juvenile detention system, and how difficult it is becoming an adult as someone incarcerated as a juvenile. The breadth of vision Michael K. Williams had was of a large scope.
Appearing in many television series, and raising awareness for social justice, the acting world not only lost a true talent, but humanity also lost a progressive figure who was willing to help the cause. As of this point, the NYPD has not posted a cause of death in this tragedy. The award-winning actor will be truly missed.
