Sega Will Announce "A New RPG" at Tokyo Game Show

According to the schedule on Tokyo Game Show’s website, Sega and Atlus are set to announce “a new RPG” during its presentation.

The “Sega Nyu #TGS Special” will air on October 1 at 10pm Japan Standard Time, which is 2pm ET. It should be noted that while the segment will include content from Atlus, a subsidiary of Sega, the posting specifically says it will announce “Sega’s new RPG.” That means Persona fans shouldn’t necessarily get their hopes up.

There are quite a few options as to what the new RPG could be, but the most likely candidate seems like a new game from the Sakura Wars series, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. A logo for Sakura Wars was also spotted on the TGS Music Fest site earlier this month. The last game in the series was the 2019 soft reboot titled Sakura Wars, which also made its way West in 2020.

Another option is the announcement could be a brand-new IP from one of its internal studios. Sega has introduced a handful of new IPs over the last few years, like Two Point Hospital, Humankind, and Judgment. The publisher has a number of upcoming titles that are likely to be featured during the show as well, like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles, Shin Megami Tensei V, and a new Sonic the Hedgehog scheduled for 2022.

The Tokyo Game Show runs for four days, from September 30 to October 2, and this year the programs will be broadcast in English with real-time interpretation. A few of the more noteworthy presentations include a presentation from Microsoft, a 50-minute show from Square Enix, a Far Cry 6 update from Ubisoft, and a special Genshin Impact presentation. The full schedule of events can be seen on the Tokyo Game Show website, with streams happening on YouTube, Twitch, and social media.
