Nintendo Quickly Denies 4K Switch Game Devkit Report

Nintendo is once again playing this song and dance with the possible existence of a 4K Switch model thanks to a recent Bloomberg report that claimed 11 studios were in possession of a 4K Switch development kits.

In the original article, Bloomberg says that the console manufacturer has provided 11 studios, including Zynga who have never made a console game with a switch devkit that supports 4K development. It goes on to say that when the company revealed the Switch OLED model back in July, the console maker has already sent out 4K development kits to third-party studios and asked to create games at 4K resolution.

The publication also claims that Nintendo is planning to release an enhanced 4K supported that is fondly referred to as the ‘Switch Pro‘ is planned to release at the earliest some time in late 2022. In a rare move, the company’s Japan corporate account has something to say about this report as they quickly denied the report three hours after the article went up.

“A news report on Sept. 30, 2021, falsely claims that Nintendo is supplying tools to drive game development for a Switch [model] with 4K support,” Nintendo said in a statement.

“To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to clarify that this report is not true. We also want to restate that, as we announced in July, we have no plans for any new model other than Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, which will launch on October 8, 2021.”

One of the publication’s sources included an anonymous Zynga employee, in a response to the article’s claim a Zynga spokesperson told Bloomberg that it “does not have a 4K developer kit from Nintendo.” After publication, Bloomberg noted in response to a number of questions that Nintendo simply stated the report was ‘inaccurate’ but wouldn’t elaborate on what specific parts of the story it was referring to.
