Activision Releases New Call of Duty on ios

This morning Activision released a new Call of Duty game called Call of Duty: Strike Team.

The title is exclusive to iPhone and iPad and costs $6.99. There are also optional purchases through the app for virtual tokens, which unlock weapons in-game.

According to The Guardian, the game takes place in the year 2020 and involves a U.S. special forces team facing an “unknown enemy”. The title features a full single-player campaign as well as a multi-player mode.

Though Strike Team features the trademark Call of Duty first person shooter gameplay, it also brings something new to the franchise: squad-based third person combat.

The third-person combat takes some inspiration from games like Company of Heroes and Halo Wars, but at a much simpler level. It involves selecting your small squad and moving them to objectives by touching the direction you want them to go.

Strike Team also boasts a high presentation value, with sharp graphics and menus that show a strong investment in the development.

The game itself was developed by The Blast Furnace, one of Activision’s Europe-based studios (focused solely on making mobile games).

This title suggest a larger focus on the mobile market for Activision, yet the company’s former boss Bobby Kotick stated in May that “right now we just don’t see anything that would suggest that changing the way we approach investing against mobile would be a good idea”

While other console companies such as Epic Games (Infinity Blade) have a big focus on the mobile market, it remains to be seen whether Activision will do the same.
