Konami Making New Metal Gear Series

Konami Making New Metal Gear Series

It looks like change is coming over at Konami. It was reported earlier that creator of the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima, might be on his way out after the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Now, the company is looking to bring on experienced developers for a new Metal Gear series.

All we know at the moment is that there is a new series. The first thought that probably went through your head is that this is a reaction to Kojima’s rumoured departure, but that hasn’t been confirmed just yet. We’ve reached out to Konami for a response on that front, or if Kojima will be part of this, but they haven’t responded just yet.

It’s kind of weird to think of a Kojima-less Metal Gear title. But at the same time, this series is essentially Konami. This is their big gun, without it, they’d be in trouble. If they own the rights to the series, then they have to move on if the creator has as well.

This isn’t the first spin off from the canon series though. Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance came out in 2013. But Kojima still had a hand in making it. This upcoming series could be the first game in the series he’s not part of.

If it is, then some changes will probably come to the series. A new head may want to make his or her own indent on the series to differentiate from Kojima’s legend. How that will turn out is up to debate, but these are interesting times for Konami.
