Life Is Strange: the award winning game from Square Enix is known for it’s complex characters and in-depth storytelling. Now, the episodic adventure is being adapted to live-action, thanks to Legendary Digital Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Digital Studios and Square Enix have teamed up to adapt Life Is Strange with Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons of dj2 Entertainment, who produced the animated series Skulls of the Shogun for Legendary-owned Nerdist Industries, and are currently working on the Sonic the Hedgehog film for Sony Pictures.
The game was brought to LDS by Cory Lanier, who will oversee the project with Senior VP Development and Production for LDS, Greg Siegel who told The Hollywood Reporter, ““Life is Strange really differs from what people think of gaming, because there’s such a focus on character, there’s an emotional connection to the story that doesn’t happen with other games.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Life is Strange appealed to Legendary because it was anchored in the real world, with a high-school setting, and dealt with the idea of consequences to one’s actions. Those, combined with a female lead, resonated with execs.”
Life is Strange follows the story of Max Caulfield, a high-school senior and photography enthusiast who discovers she can rewind time while saving her best friend Chloe Price. When the two being investigating the mysterious disappearance of their fellow student Rachel Amber, they begin to uncovers a dark side to life in their town, Arcadia Bay.
The game has won numerous awards including a BAFTA for Best Story, a Peabody Award, the Golden Joystick’s Performance of the Year and the Game Awards Games for Impact Award, and over 75 Game of the Year awards.
No writer or director has been attached to the project, however LDS hopes to have one soon.
