While CD Projekt RED has members of its staff working on the upcoming Witcher spin-off Gwent and working on tech support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the studio has confirmed that the majority of its staff has shifted over to its upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077.
News of this comes from the company’s forums where the publically-traded company answers investor questions, and where an investor asked the following [Translation via NeoGAF]:
“In your recent presentation you have mentioned, that there are over 100 people working on Gwent. I understand that the remaining employees work on CP2077 (minus tech support for TW3).”
The CD Projekt RED representative responded by saying that “There are currently more game developers working on Cyberpunk 2077 than on The Witcher 3 in its most intensive month.”
While there are no specifics on numbers, The Witcher 3 had a total of 240 in-house employees working on the game at its peak, meaning that more members of the studio are currently assisting with development of Cyberpunk 2077.
Currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Cyberpunk 2077 is projected to launch sometime between 2017 and 2021. New job listings and ads from CD Projekt RED imply that the game will feature vehicles both on the ground level of its open world and ones capable of flight. CD Projekt RED first teased Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2013, but has yet to show the game in motion as it developed and marketed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the years that followed.
While The Witcher 3 may be over a year old now, fans have been getting new content periodically, including two full-blown expansions, such as the most recent Blood and Wine DLC.
Despite the internal focus on Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED’s next game on the market will be Gwent a standalone version of The Witcher 3’s in-universe card game. For more on that, check out CGM’s latest preview.
