The Google IO Keynote event opened with a fun and well-realized CGI segment featuring Pixar-esque, brightly coloured, square characters in a busy metropolitan setting.
Google AI is getting a push, with Google planning on opening centres focused on the initiative all over the world. Google is deploying this smart AI technology in places such as India, where highly specialized doctors are scarce.
Another area where AI can help is predicting the symptoms that are still not visible even by expert doctors, catching patients before they even get sick or need readmission.
Looking to Listen is a new feature that looks at more audio and visual cues in order to break apart speech between people that talk over each other, a real boon for people who are hearing impaired.
Morse code is another area in which Google has innovated in through Google AI — with support for morse code in google’s G keyboard software.
Another key feature Google AI has added is Smart Compose, a predictive sentence generator that smartly determines the subject of your email and helps suggest entire lines of text. the software is scheduled to roll out sometime soon too all users.
Suggested Actions will be coming to google photos, which uses AI to smartly suggest actions, such as isolating underexposed photographs and suggesting to increase the exposure. Other cool features include looking at specific people in photos and sending them and tagging them without any input from the end-user. Documents that are scanned with the phone can now automatically be converted to pdf and resized accordingly, instantaneously. Finally, cool visual effects such as automatically converting black and white photos to colour can also be suggested by the new Suggested Actions function.
Wavenet is another key area, a technology that makes AI assistant voices more natural and real sounding. Google hired John Legend to lend his sexy and soothing voice into google devices, planned to come out later this year.
Google Assistant has seen great success in places such as India and Google is promising additional improvements to the software with a feature called Continued Conversation — conversations can now happen with google AI without having to say “Hey, Google” more than once. Using coordination reduction, Google can determine multiple questions in an ongoing conversation, eliminating the need to continually say “Hey, Google.”
Pretty Please is an initiative by Google for kids that use Google Assistant that reinforces good manners and the usage of the word please for children.
Smart Displays from Google will go on sale in July. A Lenovo smart display was live demoed, features like being able to watch tv by simply asking google assistance will utilize TV for Youtube or more traditional videos such as recipes will come up on the screen, giving users that have busy lives at home, easier access to the things they want.
Restaurants such as Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and Just Eat amongst other big brands are now working with Google Assistant, making it easier than ever to order food, just by asking Google.
Google assistant will now be able to make calls to actual, real people and book appointments such as haircuts and other everyday activities. The assistants can actually understand the nuances of conversations between real people and use machine learning to understand and make decisions on the behalf of the end-user.
Google also aims to alleviate the numerous phone calls people make to small businesses during holiday hours, something that is often not listed through a simple google search — Google will know make this call for you and update google searches accordingly, saving countless small businesses from countless phone calls, all asking the same thing.
Joy of missing out — or four ways Google will try and find ways to get people to put their phone down, an example of this will be through the Android feature, Dashboard, a breakdown of all the metrics related to how you use a phone in any given day, combined with Google that will tell you to take a break, if so desired by the end-user.
