OnePlus6 Flagship Phone Unveiled, Available May 22 2018 1

The world of smartphones is one that is iterative and always evolving, The OnePlus 6 is the latest flagship Android device that was shown off earlier today, during a launch event in London.

The biggest change with the OnePlus 6 comes in the form of a notch at the top of the device’s 6.3” 19:9 OLED display. OnePlus promises that the addition of the notch was in order to ensure that their latest flagship device could have the most screen real estate possible, with the notch responsible for now housing notifications and other information at the very top of the screen.

In many ways, the notch emulates Apple’s iPhone X design which the company embraced wholeheartedly, even as going as far using the notch as a means of branding for the device, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that other players in the smartphone sphere would eventually adopt this controversial design element into their flagship hardware.

Aside from the notch, the OnePlus 6 will feature an all-new glass backing, replacing the standard aluminium case that previous flagship devices utilized. An excerpt from the press release from OnePlus mentioned that the OnePlus6 will be, “the first in OnePlus’ line of flagships to feature an all-glass design,” indicating that all future phones from OnePlus may ditch the aluminium backing in favour of the glass option.

The OnePlus6 will be one of the first Android flagship devices to support the just-announced codename Andoird P operating system, out of the box. The OnePlus6 will start at $529 USD, giving users 6GB of RAM and a nice comfy 64GBs of onboard flash memory. Other specs include a Snapdragon 845 processor with Adreno 630 graphics, with up to 8GBs of RAM and storage options upwards of 256GB. The screen itself will have a resolution of 2280×1080 reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The rear of the device will sport a dual 16MP (f/1.7) and 20MP camera with OIS and advanced HDR functionality. The front-facing camera on the OnePlus6 will still have an impressive 16MP camera, capable of shooting in portrait mode. In terms of I/O, the device will support the latest USB-C standard for charging. Finally, the OnePlus6 will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo with OxygenOS, OnePlus’s clean and bloatware free front-end.

The OnePlus6 will be available in Midnight Black and Mirror Black and will be available for purchase through the official OnePlus website, starting May 22 — a special limited edition Silk White variant will also be available starting this June. In terms of price, the OnePlus 6 will start at $529 USD for the 6GB/64GB model and $579 USD for the 8GB/128GB variant, and finally, the 8GB/256GB premium model will be priced accordingly at $629 USD.
