Evangelion 3.0 +1 Confirmed for Release Sometime in 2020 1

The final Rebuild movie for Neon Genesis Evangelion has been delayed until 2020, according to a new teaser video put up by Studio Khara.

A new teaser dropped in Japan on Friday, which confirmed that Evangelion 3.0 + 1, the final film in the Neon Genesis Evangelion Rebuild series of movies, which began with Evangelion 1.0 in 2007, has been delayed until 2020, five years after its original release schedule and eight years after the release of Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo. An official high-quality release of the teaser is currently unavailable, however, some fans have put cam footage online, which since then has been mostly removed by Studio Khara.

Evangelion 3.0 was originally scheduled for release in 2015, however, due to Evangelion’s director Hideaki Anno’s battle with depression, the movie was inevitably delayed. 3.0 faced further delay due to Anno being busy with Shin Godzilla, which released in 2016 to mostly positive reception from both fans and the press alike.

The original Evangelion aired in 1996, until 1997 and consisted of 26 episodes with two feature film movies that had the canonical ending to the series. Evangelion 3.0 + 1 will be a part of the Rebuild series, a series of movies based on the original Evangelion anime, reimagined for a cinematic experience.

This new teaser is the second to drop, with Studio Khara dropping a small poster that featured scenes reminiscent of the ending of the previous Evangelion movies, for the yet-to-be-released Evangelion 3.0 + 1, last July.

No definite release date has been announced for the final Evangelion Rebuild movie at this time.
