Fortnite Season 3 Delayed in Respect for Black Lives Matter

Epic Games is standing in solidarity against racism and announced a delay of their Fortnite Season Three content to give their developers personal time.

In an update on Epic’s website, the team stated they were “acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players and communities are experiencing,” following worldwide outcry from the death of 46-year-old George Floyd, who was killed by officers on May 25, 2020. Four officers were arrested and charged of second-degree murder as the Black Lives Matter movement began to circulate on social media.

Epic Games is among many other studios in the game industry to make a stance against racism, adding “Recent events are a heavy reminder of ongoing injustices in society, from the denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism both overt and subtle against people of colour.”

Companies including Activision have also delayed their battle royale content, stating “now is not the time” in making their announcements amid worldwide discussions for accountability and change in the justice system.

While Warzone‘s Season 4 content is postponed to a later date, Fortnite is set in adding new content to the game again on Wednesday, June 17.
