The publisher Activision, and developer, Infinity Ward, have officially confirmed the title and logo for this year’s new Call of Duty title.
Activision previously confirmed that the 2022 Call of Duty game would be a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare, developed by Infinity Ward, and now they have confirmed more details. As the previous leaks suggested, this year’s Call of Duty game is called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the same name as the original 2009 game.
There is something strange about this game’s name though, as the hashtag posted with the original leak by Call of Duty leaker @TheGhostOfHope, wrote it as Modern Warfare 2, but the official Call of Duty Twitter account has hashtags that use Roman numerals. Whatever the case, it was previously reported by GAMERANT, that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 would be titled Modern Warfare II to differentiate itself from the 2009 MW2, so going by this new logo, those reports are correct.
Still, this reveal is coming fairly early in the year as the recent Call of Duty entries were announced at the end of the summer. It is possible though that the mixed reception to Call of Duty: Vanguard and the backlash to the Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific Map made Activision decide to promote this year’s entry ahead of its normal schedule.
However, it’s worth remembering that the logo and name reveal are only a half of this equation. It was also previously confirmed that a new Call of Duty: Warzone experience is built and released alongside Modern Warfare 2, although, it still hasn’t been confirmed if it will launch this year or just be shown off at some point.
Rumours also claim that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will come with a new game mode that has been compared to Escape from Tarkov, another multiplayer shooter, and that it will include new changes to Gunsmith, but fans of the series will just have to wait and see.
