The newest major system software update for the PS4 has been released. Version 3.50, codenamed MUSASHI, introduces a slew of new features, tweaks and refinements to improve the quality of the system’s social features and general capabilities.

The most prominent of these new features is the ability to appear offline. This means you can finally buckle down and finish The Witcher without your Destiny friends harassing you to go on a raid. This feature can be toggled from the Quick Menu, and is also offered as an option when you sign in. If you’re feeling extra sneaky, you can set your profile to appear offline by default.

On the flip side, you can now receive notifications when friends appear online. Under each friend’s profile, there is a new option called Notify When Online that can be toggled on or off.

Another new feature is the ability to create a User Scheduled Event. This allows players to create an event based around an upcoming gameplay session and invite friends to join you. When the event starts, invited players will be automatically added to the party. These events can also be shared to any groups or communities you’re a part of, and members of these groups will be able to register through the post.

Play Together allows friends to see what each member of a party is playing, and seamlessly join a friend’s game or start a game together. This will be especially useful for people with strict NAT types that often have trouble joining a friend’s game.

With 3.50, PS4’s Remote Play feature is also seeing an expansion. Remote Play will be extended to PC and Mac, so long as they run the following minimum system software:

  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10 or later
  • OS X 10.10
  • OS X 10.11

Players will be able to choose from a variety of frame rate and resolution options, depending on their Internet bandwidth. To use Remote Play, players must connect a Dualshock 4 controller to their computer and download the Remote Play Installer.

These are some of the highlighted features within 3.50, but the update also includes various software improvements. The update is available to all PS4 owners today.
