Warner Bros. Television is claiming their story is different regarding Rose’s exit from Batwoman.
Ruby Rose — the former Batwoman star — writes on her Instagram story on Wednesday, October 20, ““I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again…And so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you.” The original story of Rose’s departure was believed to have been simply that the studio and the actor weren’t coming to an agreement on the direction of the show and there was too much “friction” on set. Rose also mentioned how they’ve struggled with mental health a lot on Instagram and wrote, ““I’ve struggled with mental health my entire life.” Then, continues to talk about their multiple suicide attempts. The main reason for their departure was left unclear for over a year, until now.
The start of the most recent Instagram story post begins with “Dear Me” and then the names appear: Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries, executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, and The CW. The opening statement progresses to explain how the star will explain what devious acts were happening on the CW set. They begin with calling out ex-president of Warner Bros. Television, Peter Roth, who Rose claims made women “steam [Roth’s] pants around his crotch while still wearing said pants.”
The story goes on to document Rose’s injuries on the Batwoman set from a broken rib to a tumour. But that’s not the worst of it. Rose wrote about how Roth and the studio wanted them to return to set 10 days after surgery for her two herniated discs or else they would get recast, along with losing millions for the company.
Rose laid down more bombs for Dries who was described as “having no heart” when they pushed the filming of the show while other CW shows like Riverdale and The Flash had halted their productions. The production on Rose’s set only stopped because the government had to step in. They also call out how one crew member suffered third-degree burns and a production assistant (PA) was left disabled after an accident on-set. Rose explains that the two employees didn’t receive any help from the CW and the PA had no other option than to start a GoFundMe for the medical bills.
The end of the post calls out specific instances where Rose calls out their fellow male Batwoman co-stars, Dougray Scott (Jacob Kane) and Camrus Johnson (Luke Fox). Based on what they claim, Dougray hurt a “female stunt double”, yelled and left the set “when he wants to abuse women.” As for Johnson, he said remarks like, “yeah, well maybe if people were not late, we would make our days.”
It’s not clear if justice will be in Ruby Rose’s favour, but it’s certainly a courageous stand. Rose concludes with the sentiment to their fans that all they’ve witnessed on the set was atrocities, which is why they won’t return to the show. With this many specific points of evidence it doesn’t look good for the CW and the company.
Currently, Warner Bros. Television isn’t accepting any of Rose’s statements, and has released the statement below:
“Despite the revisionist history that Ruby Rose is now sharing online aimed at the producers, the cast and crew, the network, and the studio, the truth is that Warner Bros. Television had decided not to exercise its option to engage Ruby for season two of Batwoman based on multiple complaints about workplace behavior that were extensively reviewed and handled privately out of respect for all concerned.”
