Konami has announced that Suikoden and its sequel will finally be gracing modern consoles for fans in a TGS 2022 reveal that showed updated graphics.
Only two weeks removed from refiling the trademark that keeps Suikoden at home at Konami, the TGS 2022 has ripped the curtain off two notable remasters from the legendary JRPG series that has retained a fanbase since the sequel’s release back in 1998. Suikoden I and II, Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars are finally coming to more recent consoles, and a reveal trailer can be seen below.
Like the Final Fantasy VIII Remaster before it, the remastered 1-2 punch will feature a fast forward feature to allow for faster travel across the sprawling landscape, with many more quality of life improvements to make fans swoon over the re-releases.
Suikoden I and II Remaster Key Features
- Graphical Improvements – Sprites and environment art have been enhanced with new screen effects including lighting, the clouds from the photos above, and shadow based animations such as flames, smoke, the movement of leaves and insects have all been overhauled.
- New Character Drawings, Same designer – All character portraits have been updated in HD. Artist Junko Kawano, the original Suikoden designer from 1995, has re-drawn every single character portrait for Suikoden I HD Remaster Gate Rune War.
- Sound Improvements – A swath of environmental sounds not found in the originals such as the sound of running water, flowing wind, insects, and running footsteps, have made it into the remasters. Battle Sound has also been improved with all sound effects being brought into the realm of HD.
