Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The Herman Miller X Logitech G gaming chair is a luxurious option for women who want the best while gaming, or at the office.

There are few things as important to your at-home setup than a good chair. Especially with the rise in work-from-home positions and socializing happening more and more on-screen and via video games. Each of us pines for a comfortable spot to rest ourselves, and the industry answered the call, mostly.

There are countless variations of gaming and office chairs suited for almost every need, but for lots of women, the search for the perfect chair is a rough one. Some are too big, too narrow, or just don’t work with our typical dimensions. Certainly, not every woman is built the same, nor do we want the same specs, but there are some typical things a lot of women need to consider. This series will take on trying out popular gaming and office chairs and seeing if they are suitable for the average woman, breaking down exactly why.

For reference, the tester is about 5”4, 140lbs, wears a 28 waist, and is about average in every dimension. Hopefully, that provides a suitable avatar to contextualize chair dimensions so you can find the best chair for you. Today’s test subject: Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody.

Herman Miller is known for their chairs and there is a reason why. They have innovated well, and their Aeron chairs are lusted after by many. They have teamed up with Logitech, another great brand known for their tech accessories, to add some flare to their Embody chair and make it the choice for gaming.

The Embody chair was originally designed with a gamut of experts including physicians, and PhD’s in physical therapy and ergonomics. To create this chair, they extended the research to what suits gamers to add features like a different foam to support long hours at play. So how does it work for women?

The first thing to note is that this chair is low profile, lower profile than the racing style gaming chairs discussed in this series. It has a narrow (but not too narrow) back rest and no headrest. Its height adjustability is not at all limiting and will be suitable for a multitude of people, big or small. Unlike the Aeron, the seat base is flat which makes it conducive to hip and thigh width, and multiple leg positions.

“…the cooling foam should be a treat for heated gamers.”

The armrests adjust on a different plane than most, which allows you to get them closer/farther or higher/lower without encroaching on your hips and thighs. The foam seat makes it comfortable for long hours sitting, and the cooling foam should be a treat for heated gamers. For more details on how to adjust the chair, check out the video review or visit the official website.

But this chair’s selling point isn’t any of that, it’s the backrest. The backrest of this chair is difficult to describe, but once you take a seat in it, you will immediately understand. There is no lumbar knob or rod or rest, it is a complete mechanism that adjusts to your entire spine. Named the Backfit ™, the mechanism adjusts and conforms to your back, supporting the entire body. Pressure is distributed differently to lift weight off difficult spots. Similar technology is in the seat base which is a dream for sore hips and butts.

No more is the greatness evident than in the fact that this chair lacks an upper back or headrest. Initially, it seemed to be missing something, but that is not the case. With the way the backrest supports the entire spine, you are less likely to feel the need to lean forward or back or readjust and want somewhere to move.

Other chairs often require consciously sitting in them properly, but this one moves with you and supports you as you wiggle and squirm. If the headrest and lounge style functions of other racing chairs are what you are seeking, this might not be the one for you (check out the Titan or the Iskur), but for general support of the upper back and neck, this chair is not lacking.

“It is a luxury chair and comes with a luxury price tag.”

The chair comes in all black or black with cyan details, so will look slick in almost any space. It is a luxury chair and comes with a luxury price tag, clocking in at $1,595 USD/$1,995.00 CAD. It’s certainly the priciest one in the series, but it’s also one of the most appealing. It boasts a 12-year warranty and comes fully assembled.

This luxury model is in the top tier pricing, but it is justified if it’s within your range. It has been specially crafted to support the entire spine and paired with the thick, cooling foam, it is excellent for long hours at work or play. Its adjustability and customizability make it perfect for multiple body types and it will certainly be suitable for various female bodies. The flat seat and armrest design make it all the more suitable for wide hips and thighs and the height adjustment is conducive to varying heights.
