Nine Inch Nails Will Compose Watchmen TV Series

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, from the hit band Nine-Inch Nails, are joining HBO’s upcoming Watchmen TV series in a music composition role.

The news was announced today in a press release and it signifies another crucial step towards the series’ eventual release. Reznor and Ross have a history of working on movies together, and their first project was composing for the film The Social Network. Since then they have worked on films such as The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo, Leonardo Di Caprio’s environmental documentary Before the Flood as well as the acclaimed thriller Se7en.

HBO’s Watchmen TV series is based on the award-winning graphic novel of the same name. It’s set in an alternate reality in which superheroes are treated as outlaws and nuclear threats are reaching a boiling point. The new series promises to embrace the nostalgia of the original graphic novel, while also attempting to differentiate itself from the source material.

On the comics side, DC is currently publishing a series called Doomsday Clock, which involves characters from the Watchmen universe interacting with DC Comics mainstays like Superman and Batman. The publisher also launched a series of prequels in 2012 entitled Before Watchmen that looked into the lives of the characters from the seminal graphic novel in the years leading up to it.

HBO’s Watchmen series marks the first live-action Watchmen project since Zach Snyder’s 2010 film, which received mix reviews and currently sits at a score of 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. The upcoming series is set to debut at some point in 2019.
