Sony announces the imminent return of the PlayStation Store

Customers may be wary, but they’ll nonetheless be able to make purchases through Sony’s digital retail client.

As you’ve no doubt heard, it’s been more than a month since the PlayStation Network first went down, but the service is finally ready to make a full return. Sony has announced that both the PSN and Qriocity will be fully operational by the end of the week, which means that the PlayStation Store will once again be up and running and players will be able to buy games, redeem codes, and – more importantly – grab a few free games courtesy of Sony’s “Welcome Back” plan.

There are a few noteworthy clauses – the PSN will still be offline in Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea pending the resolution of a few other issues – but it’s nonetheless a harbinger of a welcome return to normalcy. Customers have been able to play games online since May 15

, but I’ve got a Reptile fatality to download and it’s been a harsh reminder that a modern game console has limited functionality when it’s only good for gaming.
