May The Fourth 2025: What To Stream On Disney+

What seems like any other random day in May for some is a spiritual holiday for Star Wars fans: May The Fourth, an unofficial day of celebrating the galaxy far, far away. Each year devout and casual fans alike use the day as an excuse for movie marathons, loot purchases, and generally letting their inner child feel like a Jedi.

With nearly fifty years of content to partake in across countless mediums, this year we’ve compiled a list of the best series and movies to stream on Disney+ this May The Fourth. Some of these are timely choices with anniversaries this year, others are related to exciting projects on the horizon, and some just nail the spirit of Star Wars.

So without further ado, punch it, Chewie!

5) Star Wars Visions, Volume 1

Of all the new things teased at Star Wars Celebration in Japan last month, confirmation of a third volume of Star Wars Visions was among the most welcome. Visions is also the most experimental content Lucasfilm has made for Disney+ to date, if only because Lucasfilm didn’t technically make these animated shorts. Instead, they passed the reins to renowned animation studios around the world, and Volume 1 consisted entirely of original stories told by anime studios.

The third volume will continue three of the best storylines in Volume 1— Production IG’s “The Ninth Jedi,” Kinema Citrus’s “The Village Bride,” and Kamikaze Douga’s “The Duel”—while also featuring six brand new standalone shorts. (“The Ninth Jedi,” in fact, will continue beyond this new season, with a spin-off series in 2026.)

Star Wars Visions Volume 3 will launch October 29, 2025, but May The Fourth is a great opportunity to either revisit or experience these shorts for the first time, to get up to speed and see the imaginative new ways these studios interpreted the Star Wars galaxy.

4) Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens

Hard to believe, but this year marks the tenth anniversary of The Force Awakens‘ theatrical debut, kicking the current age of Star Wars storytelling into gear. Regardless of what you think of what’s come since, the excitement beforehand was electric, with fans whipped into a fervor at the prospect of having new films for the first time in nine years.

Though some will claim that it’s a “shot-for-shot” remake of A New Hope—to which I disagree and cite George Lucas’ “it’s like poetry, it rhymes” philosophy—The Force Awakens is one of the most vividly fun entries in the Skywalker Saga. It moves at a breakneck pace through a new corner of the franchise’s timeline, setting the table for a new canon and introducing a worthy new cast.

If you’re looking for Star Wars at its popcorn-blockbuster best this May The Fourth, The Force Awakens is the perfect comfort rewatch. (Just try to forget that director J.J. Abrahms couldn’t stick the landing four years later.)

3) Star Wars Rebels

The spiritual successor to The Clone Wars series, Star Wars Rebels was also a pioneering pillar of Disney’s reset canon. Masquerading as a hildren’s show, Rebels told the tale of a Rebellion commando team in the years before A New Hope. The crew of the Ghost—Kanan, Hera, Zeb, Sabine, Ezra, and of course, Chopper—were as fundamental to the Rebel Alliance’s victory as the heroes we met in the Original Trilogy, and their story is worth revisiting this May The Fourth.

“May The Fourth is a great time to catch up on arguably the best Star Wars series made on Disney+.”

In fact, if you’ve been neglecting the animated side of the Star Wars library, you almost owe it to yourself to dip into Rebels and see where many cornerstone elements of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka began. Most of the team has appeared in live action between the two shows, while the saga of the Darksaber that has been so essential to The Mandalorian has a critical role through Rebels season 3 and 4 (alongside appearances from Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan).

It’s great Star Wars storytelling for most of the family, and it can fill in the gaps in some critical live action characters’ backstories (especially with the upcoming feature films taking them from Disney+ to the silver screen in the coming years).

2) Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith

With the hate that the Prequels got in their own time, it was hard to imagine that 20 years later, Episode III would have become a fan favourite, earning a successful box office revival for its anniversary in 2025. Yet, that’s exactly what’s happened; the Prequels have become unlikely classics, and Revenge of the Sith‘s tragic tale is one of the most referenced films of modern Star Wars discourse.

It has a lot of long conversations in computer-generated hallways, and almost as much unnecessary (if not downright tactically counterintuitive) lightsaber spinning, but Revenge of the Sith will surely be one of the most streamed movies on Disney+ this May The Fourth. The tale of Anakin’s downfall is now beloved, with fans finally able to look past the vitriol that accompanied its release.

(And if nothing else, who doesn’t love an opportunity to copy Ewan MacGregor when he pops up on screen and drops a casual “hello there”?)

1) Andor + Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Now, Andor season 2 is only halfway through as we approach May The Fourth, but nonetheless, it’s a great time to hop into season 1 if you haven’t watched (or rewatched) it just yet.

As mentioned in my review of this season, Andor ties a neat bow on the story of Cassian Andor and builds the perfect on-ramp to Rogue One—and indeed, once the season is over, do yourself a favour and at least watch the first half hour or so of Rogue One immediately after the finale.

In the meantime, however, May The Fourth is a great time to catch up on arguably the best Star Wars series made on Disney+. It puts the spotlight on the average people fighting the actual “star wars,” showing the proper rise of the Rebel Alliance (especially in conjunction with other Star Wars media set at the same time), and shows that there’s much more to this conflict than just dudes with laser swords and magic powers.

And naturally, Rogue One itself is also a great, timely watch for May The Fourth 2025. Its enhancements to the story of the Death Star have become near and dear to so many fans over the years—and plus, finishing the movie provides the perfect excuse to jump right into watching A New Hope all over again.
