Samsung has unveiled all the details for its thinnest flagship smartphone yet, with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge set to launch worldwide on May 30thrd, with pre-orders open now. We also had some hands-on time with the phone and have a few early impressions to share.

The device, initially teased at Galaxy Unpacked in January, marks Samsung’s bold return to the “Edge” branding, pushing the limits of what’s possible in a remarkably slim profile, measuring as thin as three toonies stacked on top of each other at its narrowest point. According to Samsung’s measurements, the S25 Edge measures at just 5.8 mm thick, making it significantly slimmer than both the standard Galaxy S25 (7.2 mm) and any current iPhone. Despite its slender frame, the device is built for flagship-level performance, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite (3 nm) processor and paired with 12 GB of RAM.

Despite its thin profile, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge feels sturdy and solid in the hand, featuring a premium build with a titanium frame that Samsung claims provides strength and scratch resistance despite the ultra-thin design. Unlike the wider range of colours offered in the rest of the Galaxy S25 lineup, consumers will have just three colour options to choose from: Titanium Jetblack, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Iceblue. Both finishes look sleek, giving the phone an overall premium appearance throughout.

“Despite its thin profile, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge feels sturdy and solid in the hand…”

While the Galaxy S25 Edge is much thinner than the other phones in the S25 range, Samsung has positioned it as a midway point between the S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, ensuring the phone delivers a solid experience throughout, even when it comes to photography. To this end, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S25 Edge with the same 200-megapixel main camera sensor found on the S25 Ultra, giving the phone a strong baseline for photos and video, even for content creators.

This represents a significant upgrade over the 50 MP sensors in other S25 models, and provides even more reason to consider the Edge if you’re looking to get the best shots possible. The device will feature a dual-camera system, leaving out the telephoto lens found on other flagship models—likely due to space constraints imposed by its slim design—with the ultra-wide camera limited to a 12 MP f/2.2 sensor.

On the display front, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will sport a 6.7-inch, 3120 x 1440 QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and will ship with Android 15 running Samsung’s One UI 7 interface. Battery capacity appears to be one of the few compromises made to achieve the slim form factor, with the S25 Edge housing a 3,900 mAh battery, significantly smaller than the 4,900 mAh cell in the Galaxy S25 Plus. Even with this, a Samsung rep has told CGMagazine the Galaxy S25 Edge will last for a full day’s worth of video playback, although, as with anything, we will need to test this claim to see how it holds up in real-world use.

“The decision to use the same 200 MP sensor found on the Galaxy S25 Ultra was a brilliant one, making the S25 Edge an excellent option for content creators who want the best possible performance in the smallest form factor.”

On the price front, Samsung is positioning the Galaxy S25 Edge as a premium device, with the 512 GB model priced at $1,858.99 CAD ($1,342 USD) and the 256 GB variant at $1,678.99 CAD ($1,099.99 USD). This places it slightly above the Galaxy S25+ but below the Ultra in Samsung’s lineup—still firmly within the flagship smartphone pricing range when compared to devices from OnePlus, Xiaomi or Motorola.

Having had some hands-on time with the Galaxy S25 Edge, even briefly, Samsung has a winner here. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is one of the more exciting phones in the S25 range. While I do worry about how the phone will hold up to bend tests, given its incredibly thin profile, I love how it feels in the hand.

It is exceptionally lightweight and just feels great to hold. I was also impressed with the camera, which delivered some fantastic shots, especially considering the phone’s size. The decision to use the same 200 MP sensor found on the Galaxy S25 Ultra was a brilliant one, making the S25 Edge an excellent option for content creators who want the best possible performance in the smallest form factor.

The Galaxy S25 Edge feels like the perfect phone for the current smartphone landscape, especially as manufacturers are increasingly focused on differentiation through novel form factors and specialized devices. Samsung’s return to the ultra-slim smartphone category signals its commitment to diversifying its premium lineup beyond the standard, Plus and Ultra models that have defined its flagship strategy in recent years.

With the launch set for May 30th, we are eager to get our hands on the new Galaxy S25 Edge to see how it holds up under more rigorous testing. But for now, it’s exciting to see Samsung pushing innovation in smartphone design. While we’ve all enjoyed the S25 lineup overall, the look and feel of the range were starting to feel dated. This new offering may be the shot in the arm the Galaxy series needed to compete with the latest players in the market.
