Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate
Summary
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is a 2.5D action-adventure game that serves as a companion to the console version of Arkham Origins. Set three months after the events of its predecessor, the game takes place entirely within the confines of Blackgate Prison. Players control Batman as he investigates a mysterious explosion at the facility, only to find that three of Gotham’s most notorious villains – Black Mask, Penguin, and Joker – have taken control of different sections of the prison.
The game adapts the combat and stealth mechanics of the main Arkham series to a side-scrolling perspective, allowing players to use Batman’s gadgets and fighting skills in a more compact environment. Exploration plays a key role, with players backtracking through the prison’s interconnected areas to uncover secrets and progress the story.
Blackgate features a unique visual style that blends 3D character models with 2D backgrounds, creating a comic book-like aesthetic. The game includes boss battles against familiar Batman villains and incorporates detective work through the use of Batman’s various gadgets and abilities.
Originally released for handheld systems, Blackgate later received a “Deluxe Edition” for consoles and PC, featuring enhanced graphics and additional content. The game offers a different take on the Arkham formula, providing a more focused and compact Batman experience.
