This morning, Nintendo took to its official social accounts to announce that yet another Nintendo Direct is coming, and it will land tomorrow.
For the past few years, Nintendo has been playing its cards close to its chest, drip-feeding news to fans at a rate that can only be described as slow. However, this week, Nintendo confirmed not one but two Nintendo Direct presentations will take place over the next week.
The previously announced Direct from early February was confirmed to contain information surrounding the highly speculated and highly leaked successor console to the Nintendo Switch. Tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct, however, is confirmed to showcase upcoming Nintendo developments that are not related to the Nintendo Switch 2. The official Nintendo X (formerly Twitter) post can be seen below.
Of course, fan speculation has gone rabid since the announcement made less than two hours ago, centering around what Nintendo may reveal at the presentation. They have confirmed “upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch” and stated that nothing related to the Nintendo Switch 2 will be shown or mentioned, leaving Nintendo game software as the primary focus.
Since its announcement in June 2024 (at a Nintendo Direct, no less), Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has not been mentioned by Nintendo, leading fans to hope it will be part of tomorrow’s presentation.
Other fans, commenting directly underneath the post, have speculated about the possibility of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption being ported to the Nintendo Switch, as well as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD. All four titles are currently unavailable on the Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo has made a point of porting over titles that were previously “stuck” on the Wii and Wii U home consoles.
One commenter, @JMan41500 said “Suuuurreelllllyyy we get Mario baseball on Opening Day riiiiiigghtttttt” to coincide with the start of the MLB season, and other commenters have also shown interest in a Mario Super Sluggers port. The recent release of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Xenoblade Chronicles X shows their commitment.
Although the new Nintendo Direct focusing on Nintendo Switch software arrives tomorrow, and another Direct focusing on Nintendo Switch 2 arrives on April 2, Nintendo did not say that this is the final Nintendo Direct for the 2017 console. Fans can tune into the Nintendo Direct tomorrow from the official Nintendo YouTube channel at 10:00 a.m. EST.
