Amazon Games Announces A New Publishing Deal With Maverick Games

A new deal ensures the first game from the former Forza Horizon developers over at Maverick Games will be published by Amazon Games.

Maverick Games is a studio formed by former Playground Games developers who worked on the Forza Horizon series of games. Today, they’ve announced (alongside publisher Amazon Games) a new open-world driving title that will launch on the PS5, the Xbox Series X, and the PC. Former Playground Games Head and current Maverick Games developer Mike Brown said, “We founded Maverick Games with a clear vision: to build a developer-first studio that would foster an environment of creativity and risk-taking,” in the announcement. The official announcement from Maverick Games from X (formerly Twitter) can be seen below.

The Vice President of Amazon Games, Christoph Hartmann, said, “In our ongoing global search for talented development teams who are building compelling titles that players will love, Maverick Games stood out as a studio that can deliver on all fronts,” continuing with “Mike and his team are the total package — proven game developers who are masters at their craft and aren’t content with the status quo.” With a shared vision in mind, this is how the deal between Amazon Games and Maverick Games was brokered.

Seeing as how the latest open-world racing title was The Crew Motorfest, and before that, LEGO 2K Drive, a new realistic open-world racing title from former Playground developers could refuel the genre. Mike Brown said, “I’ve been making racing games for nearly 20 years, and I know this community really well,” and concluded with, “I think there are a lot of fantasies, desires, and motivations that this community has that we have a unique opportunity to deliver on.”
