Another month brings another new selection of free games, and that includes Prime Gaming, the platform owned by Amazon.
This month brings a selection of 12 claim-and-keep titles, meaning if you claim them now, you’ll keep access to the games, even if you cancel your Amazon Prime subscription. August’s offerings are an interesting blend of genres — an all-time classic and an ambitious reimaging.
The first two, and arguably biggest titles, on offer are Sid Meier’s Civilization 3 Complete and Thief (2014).
Civilization 3 is one of the strongest entries in the strategy series, which is really saying something. Originally released on PC in 2001, it somehow managed to improve on the nearly-perfect Civilization 2, adding eight new civs and a Corruption feature.
Thief on the other hand is a reimagining of the classic stealth-adventure series, developed by Eidos Montreal. Set in a dark fantasy world known as The City, you play as a thief who undertakes several missions to steal from the rich — taking a black box approach to strategy with multiple different routes and solutions.
