Information continues to spill out regarding the still yet-to-be-announced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake, and this time, info is not from a voice actor but ‘anonymous sources.’
Speculation first ignited in 2024 after a slip-up at an autograph signing. Matt Ryan, the actor behind Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, was recorded telling fans they should “be excited about some remakes.” His comment immediately fuelled rumours of a potential remake of the popular title, sparking ongoing discussion that has yet to settle down.

More recently, Ryan addressed the topic again at a convention. When asked about his earlier comments on a possible remake, he deflected, saying, “I say nothing,” while nodding at cameras and recording devices as a reason he may have been reprimanded for his 2024 remarks. Since then, information from the actor has dried up.
Today, a report has come out from the French publication Jeux Vidéo Magazine (as found by VGC) —which has posted information on Ubisoft games in the past— says it has received details on the remake from a variety of anonymous sources. The video posted to their official YouTube channel revealing the information can be seen below, but fans should note it’s in French.
A report from Jeux Vidéo Magazine comes across as somewhat contradictory. The publication cites sources who say Ubisoft is aiming to release the remake early next year, with March as the most likely launch window. However, it also references other sources who suggest the release may slip to late 2026.
The French outlet also reports the remake will include quality-of-life updates and introduce more role-playing elements, similar to recent Assassin’s Creed titles such as Odyssey. These changes are expected to affect inventory and loot systems in particular. The game is also said to be running on the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, which powered Assassin’s Creed Shadows, promising significant visual improvements for a modern re-release.
Fans should approach these claims with caution. Ubisoft has not confirmed the existence of an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake, and neither have any of its development teams. While it could be exciting for speculation to run wild, fans should temper expectations until an official announcement is made.
