The official post and reads “We regret to inform you that due to various circumstances, we have decided to cancel our online participation in Tokyo Game Show 2024 which was scheduled to start at 3:00 PM on September 26th,” including an apology to fans who were anticipating the showcase. Ubisoft did mention that they would be continuing their ongoing giveaway campaign amid the shuffle in schedule. The last time Ubisoft apologized to its Japanese audience was after the official reveal trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which included the Sekigahara Teppo-tai flag associated with a historical re-enactment group (which the group did not accept).
On top of the dropped TGS 2024 appearance, Ubisoft has allegedly cancelled upcoming previews for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The new information comes from Insider Gaming, and they say the previews were scheduled to take place next week, but according to “various sources” (notably unnamed) the previews were cut. The upcoming cancellation of both the TGS 2024 appearance and the alleged Shadows preview, has led fans into believing the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be delayed.
Over on Reddit fans have put their spin on the cancellation news and they believe the title will be delayed due to the troubles. Other fans have pointed out that it could be potentially worse than that, with user named PettyTeen253 saying “One thing everyone is ignoring is that Ubisoft cancelled their ENTIRE show. As in games other than Shadows“.
UPDATE [Sept 26]: Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gets Official Delay Until February 2025
As this story was posted, Ubisoft took to the internet to reveal its financial targets for FY2024-25. In this update, Ubisoft said “Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now be released on 14 February 2025. While the game is feature complete, the learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title. This will enable the biggest entry in the franchise to fully deliver on its ambition, notably by fulfilling the promise of our dual protagonist adventure, with Naoe and Yasuke bringing two very different gameplay styles.”
Ubisoft also included an update on the seasonal pass content, saying that they’re now ditching that release model and instead of letting fans who pre-order the game early access, the pre-order bonus will give fans access to the first game’s expansion for free. Lastly, the news concluded by saying Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch day one on Steam as well as on console.
