Yesterday’s Avengers: Doomsday livestream slowly and frustratingly revealed its star-studded cast for the upcoming Marvel film, and at the end, there were notable exclusions.
Marvel Entertainment may have had a stranglehold on the entire internet yesterday, with a painfully slow live stream that simply revealed names on the back of chairs confirming who was cast in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday MCU-based film. The livestream took an astounding five and a half hours, and it has since concluded. While there were obvious shoe-ins (yes, Robert Downey Jr. is in the film, and since NYCC 2024, he has been confirmed as the big bad Doctor Doom), there were obvious shoe-ins that were not announced in the over 300-minute long video.
Fans who want to see the announced cast can find it below in the now-in-production confirmation slow roll (which might be the longest film announcement ever).

While Channing Tatum’s performance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine was a fan-favourite representation and his inclusion in Avengers: Doomsday will likely make X-Men fans excited (including Kelsey Grammer returning as Beast), Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine were left off of the confirmation list. Another notable exclusion is Tom Holland as Spider-Man, considering the major role the character plays in the MCU, but the events of No Way Home could mean Spider-Man could be going in a new direction in the MCU. Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were also exclusions.

While Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth have been confirmed (as two of the first four Avengers, with Downey Jr. donning the villainous mask instead of his iconic Iron Man portrayal) to appear in Doomsday, the other two Avenger actors, Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo are nowhere to be found (despite reports Evans would return). The same can be said for other Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Vision (Paul Bettany), The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), who are MIA.
Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), the entire cast of The Eternals, and every Disney+ (and Netflix) Marvel production have been left on the cutting room floor for Avengers: Doomsday, too. However, fans should note the MCU has a way of implementing characters in unforeseen ways, which means a further casting announcement could detail more characters coming to Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday is now in production and set to release in theatres on May 1, 2026.
