Devs of Black Myth: Wukong reveal the sequel Black Myth: Zhong Kui with its first trailer at gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live.
ARPG fans have something massive to look forward to, with those who enjoyed playing the famous Chinese deity Wukong. Developers of Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science, revealed the sequel Black Myth: Zhong Kui with its first trailer at gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live. Rumours floated earlier today about how the sequel would be focused on another well-known Chinese folklore deity. What a way to close out the ONL showcase by branching out the Black Myth franchise.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui’s reveal trailer did not show off too much, other than two guys talking about trying to please their master. The camera then panned to someone riding on top of a giant tiger. That person was none other than Zhong Kui. No gameplay or combat displayed Zhong Kui’s skills or abilities yet. This was more of a cinematic teaser, coming in at under two minutes.
Leading up to the trailer, host Geoff Keighley stated the game follows up on the “ghost-catching god who wanders between hell and earth.” Zhong Kui is generally known as a Taoist deity who slays ghosts and battles evil beings. He is often depicted as shown in the trailer, as a large man with a big black beard, bulging eyes, and a wrathful expression.

Here is the description of Black Myth: Zhong Kui provided by Game Science:
“No ghosts walked the earth till born of human heart; Onstage and off, immortals fall to fiends—their perfected art. Indoors and out, the judge is bound by the same household ties; The sun is veiled, the moon unmoved — who decrees who lives and who dies? I turn from worldly tangles and their codes, from glories smeared with sleight. I raise my sword — I raise it to fight; With it, I shall judge wrong and right!”
The description was told in a poetic way more than anything else. Redditors and forum members will have a lot to decipher from this. As the game remains in early development, no in-game footage is available. This makes reasonable sense as the first game only dropped last year. Even so, this first look is promising to see that Black Myth: Wukong is building out a series of games based on Chinese mythology. Be sure to check back in on updates!
