Borderlands 4 has had a successful launch on Xbox, PC, and PS5, but just 10 days out from its Nintendo Switch 2 launch, it has been delayed indefinitely.
The immensely popular looter-shooter, Borderlands 4, launched earlier this month to widespread acclaim. Many reviews touted the title as a ‘return to form,’ with the median critical score on Metacritic hitting 82 percent. However, fans have recently flooded the lane with bad scores, claiming the title has poor performance regardless of console or gaming rig.
Over on Steam, what was once read as a “positive” reception has changed to mixed due to performance issues fans are having, and they’re voicing the issues that are occurring. Potentially due to the current performance issues on PS5, Xbox, and PC, Gearbox has decided to outright delay the Nintendo Switch 2 port for Borderlands 4 indefinitely, with Nintendo rolling out refunds for pre-orders. The delay post can be seen below from the official Borderlands X (formerly Twitter) account.
The post reads, “We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that. Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important,” adding that the team at Gearbox does “appreciate the feedback, support, and patience of our fans and community.” Fans who have pre-ordered the title through the Nintendo Digital storefront can claim their refund now or wait until September 26, when the refund will happen automatically.

Gearbox said it hopes to staple the new release date for Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 to the arrival of cross-save functionality for all versions of the game, but didn’t provide a release window for that or the now-delayed Nintendo Switch 2 port for Borderlands 4. Right now, Fans (and potentially Gearbox themselves) don’t know when Borderlands 4 will release on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The normally outspoken CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, announced the Switch 2 port back in July on social media, but has not addressed the title’s delay on Nintendo as of this posting. Fans will just have to wait for Gearbox to release more information on the port as no release date is currently set for the port.
