Buzz Lightyear is Ready to Blast Off in First Trailer

To Infinity... and Beyond

Buzz Lightyear Get's Ready to Suit up in First Trailer

Pixar has released the first trailer for its upcoming animated movie, Lightyear which is has been described as the origin of Buzz Lightyear.

The feature-length film isn’t focusing on the Buzz Lightyear we all know and love from the Toy Story movies but the man and hero who inspired the toy. This angle for Buzz Lightyear has been explored in the past in the 2000 direct to video 2D animated movie, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins which led into its own show, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and video game. This time around the legendary space ranger isn’t being voiced by Tim Allen but the Captain America actor himself, Chris Evans will lend his voice to Buzz for a whole new generation of fans.

“The phrase ‘a dream come true’ gets thrown around a lot, but I’ve never meant it more in my life. Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can’t believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else. Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day,” Chris Evans said in a statement.

The trailer features Buzz himself as he looks more than ready to head to space with ground control counting down to blast off with the tune of David Bowie’s “Starman” playing in the background. The minute and a half trailer shows off many sides of the character, both in and out of the normal-looking space suit he’s wearing. Buzz can be seen gazing at his iconic green and white suit he’ll undoubtedly upgrade to later in the movie in the final moments in the trailer.

Lightyear was first announced almost a year at Disney’s 2020 Investor Day and is set to release next year on June 17th, 2022 which isn’t too far away. The film is being helmed by Annie Award-winning director and veteran Pixar animator Angus MacLane, who co-directed Finding Dory.
