Chibi-Robo on Switch Could Mean Big Price Drops for GameCube Collectors

Physical copy price drops

Chibi-Robo Comes To Nintendo Switch Online on August 21, And It's Bad For Physical Collectors

One of the rarest titles in the GameCube library, Chibi-Robo, is coming to Nintendo Switch Online, and that’s already proven to drop the physical price.

Another hard-to-find GameCube title is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, and it appears it’s a Switch 2 exclusive. As physical pricing for rare GameCube titles has hit an all-time high, Nintendo’s additions to its online service continue to make games that are only playable on their native consoles more accessible, which is a boon for those who can’t shell out the hundreds of dollars needed to jump in. Nintendo launched a trailer for the exciting Chibi-Robo release, and it can be seen below.

The 2006 well-received puzzler, Chibi-Robo, has seen itself go from cult-classic to collector’s dream find since its launch, with prices of the title ranging from $100-200 easily on resale websites. PriceCharting has the average sale of a complete-in-box copy well over the $200 mark. Known Twitter game collector, Stealth40K, mentioned the addition to the Nintendo Switch Online library is “VERY nice” and said other games that join the platform will also see a notable decrease in pricing (and speculated Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance would follow).

Outside of the collector community, Chibi-Robo is a well-received title, according to a 75 percent approval rating on MetaCritic. Fans have exalted the title for being loaded with originality and charm, while also being a fun title to play. Other rabid fans have been clamouring for the return of the tiny spark-plug-wielding robot for years, with a whole Reddit thread being dedicated to fans happily celebrating the return of the small robot. One fan, Unicronicorn, writes, “Really hope this brings the game and series to more people’s attention” in hopes more fans will come out of its inclusion on the platform.

Whether fans have played Chibi-Robo or not, it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 21, and it can be played for much less than $100 then.
