Comcast Announces The First Ultra-Low Lag Xfinity Internet Experience

Comcast has announced its first ultra-low lag Xfinity Internet experience, lowering the latency for gaming, videoconferencing, virtual reality, and many more.

To improve many user experiences on the internet, whether they are playing online or using cloud gaming services via NVIDIA GeForce NOW, FaceTiming on their Apple products, or using a virtual reality headset, Comcast is launching the first ultra-low lag Xfinity internet experience. With the launch, customers will enjoy more responsive gaming during their competitive match, video chatting with friends or business associates, and using the VR productively.

Comcast’s low-lag Internet aims to break new ground on technology as it will help to ensure customers can take advantage of everything the Internet has to offer from today onward. Latency-sensitive applications will allow the users to experience less delay, and a smoother yet more responsive online experience compared to 5G home internet, which suffers from getting bogged down and the connection deteriorates if many people are online in the household.

Comcast customers will see the benefit of the new technology firsthand when they FaceTime with friends or loved ones on their Apple product, Meta virtual reality headsets, NVIDIA GeForce Now, or play online with friends on Steam. Not to mention, Comcast’s low-lag experience will expand as additional content and application providers utilize the new technology for their products. When it is fully deployed in the future, it will be available to all Xfinity Internet customers.

Over the past years, Comcast has been testing the low latency technology with its user group, with the test meeting or exceeding expectations. The rollout will begin and expand to cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Philadelphia, Rockville (Maryland), and San Francisco while deploying across the rest of the country over the next few months. The customers will get to utilize the low-lag feature on the XB6, XB7, and XB8 models of the Xfinity Gateway, alongside the leased and retail modems being added in the future as the software on the devices can support the new technology.

With 63 million Xfinity internet connections in homes and businesses across the country, many Comcast customers will soon be able to utilize the Low-lag Internet features for a smooth browsing experience across the internet and applications.
