On Tuesday, Remedy Entertainment held a Capital Markets Day 2024 to discuss the future of the company, but also said the future sequel Control 2 will be an Action RPG.
As a part of their Capital Markets Day 2024 presentation, Remedy Entertainment has revealed many tidbits on the future of the company. Namely, that Alan Wake 2 sold 1.8 million units since its launch, and their upcoming sequel, Control 2, will shift genres to an Action RPG. This is not the first time Remedy has changed the identity of one of its franchises. Alan Wake 2 shifted from a more action-oriented title to survival horror, and the gamble paid off, making it their best-regarded title at a critical level according to Metacritic (garnering an 89% over 75 critical reviews).

Control 2 is currently in development at Remedy Entertainment, with help from Tencent after securing a loan of €15 million to remain a self-published studio back in September. Tencent has had dealings with Remedy Entertainment before: Tencent purchased a 3.8 per cent stake in Remedy in May 2021, which then increased to 14 per cent in April 2024. The latest loan has also since been converted to approximately 811,110 new shares (about 5.98 per cent).
Alan Wake 2’s Lake House DLC alludes to Control 2 during the narrative, and with help from Annapurna Interactive, they have hefty plans for the IP in the future, including potential TV and film expansions. With the deals in place with Tencent and Annapurna, Control 2 can be made exactly the way Remedy Entertainment intends, as an independently developed title in what Remedy calls the ‘Remedy Connected Universe.’

Aside from announcing Control 2 will be an action RPG, the Capital Markets Day 2024 presentation didn’t share anything else about the upcoming title. Remedy has also yet to expand on this announcement, but they will undoubtedly do so in the near future.
