CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the wildly popular Cyberpunk 2077, has yet again shown its dedication to the game with a free performance update.
The new update is only for the PlayStation 5 Pro because it is designed around taking full advantage of the hardware. What that means is if you are lucky enough to own a PlayStation 5 Pro, you can now enjoy Night City in a whole new graphical fidelity. What’s even better is that Cyberpunk 2077 is free right now to Extra and Premium members of PS+.
Getting down to the meat and potatoes, the update focuses on three new graphical modes, each serving its own purpose. The first of the three, Performance mode, is designed for people who want the highest possible frame rate, making it perfect for players who covet fast, fluid gameplay. Ray Tracing Pro mode is next, and is essentially what the PS5 Pro was built for, as it takes full advantage of ray-tracing enhancements and stands as the high-end option among the three. The last is standard Ray Tracing, a balance between the other two modes.

One of the cooler things this update adds is support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR for short. PSSR, at its core, is a software that can upscale gameplay using AI. What that means is that when running a game, it will actually render in a lower resolution and then use the AI to upscale it. It is supposed to boost and maintain high-performance gameplay.
The patch notes are pretty small for this update, but they do mention other elements, such as BVH8 support, which, in layman’s terms, makes ray tracing more efficient for rendering shadows, reflections and lighting in general. It is a fairly substantial update for Cyberpunk 2077 as far as graphics go, and owners of the game on PS5 Pro can download it now and get in on the Night City action.
