A dark forest line, lit only by the moon’s glimmer; in the distance, something impossibly big walks by and blocks the light entirely. That is the world of TROLLHEIM: GNOMES.
Spearheaded by some of the original leadership at Mojang, TROLLHEIM: GNOMES is set in an eerie Nordic world that picks up after the last of the Sprýg Gnomes is uprooted by Odin from their place in Midgård. You and the rest of your kind must then reunite in the Dark Forest, where gnomes, faeries, and sirens are as real as reality itself.

However, the forest is a tough environment; the gnomes you play as are only a couple of inches tall, so anything can kill you or destroy what you worked so hard for. But being small is also an advantage; by using the forest and its bounty, you can survive and build things like massive treehouses high in the canopy, wingsuits to get around the map faster, and weapons to defend yourself with.
As for the storyline, the main goal in TROLLHEIM: GNOMES is to find your family and understand why you are in the forest at all, but most of the deeper lore comes from environmental storytelling. Sometimes you will find something with a history attached to it, but other times it’s easier to understand through things like talking to other gnomes and learning from them, or finding items called “marks” that explain events through writing; the world’s lore gradually develops as you explore. You can also get classic journal entries, like item descriptions in soulslikes, that detail specifics about whatever you’re looking at.

Exploration is key in TROLLHEIM: GNOMES; climbing trees, bounding over rocks, and delving into caves are the quickest ways to prosper in the forest. With the game launching with full multiplayer support, exploration like that is even better with your friends’ and gnomes’ help and resources.
While TROLLHEIM: GNOMES has no set release date yet, you can still explore its world through books, games, and more.
