Death Stranding 2 Is Getting a Live "Game Premiere" Event Alongside Summer Game Fest

Earlier this week, Hideo Kojima was announced as a “Special Guest” for this year’s Summer Game Fest, and it turns out it’s more special than we thought.

Two days after the Summer Game Fest Showcase, Kojima is putting on a Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Live Game Premiere — a live event happening at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. It’s the latest step in a world tour of live events Kojima Productions has been putting on for the game. The tour kicks off with this event before travelling across the world to cities like Sydney, Tokyo, Taipei, Shanghai, Riyadh, Sao Paulo, and more. Full details on the tour can be found here.

The Game Premiere will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, and apparently feature special guests and an “exclusive” live presentation of never-before-seen Death Stranding 2 gameplay. Considering the wide array of actors and celebrities in the game, those special guests could practically be anyone.

If you happen to be in Los Angeles, the event is actually free to attend, but you’ll need to go to the official website and register for a ticket first. If you can’t attend in person, don’t worry, as the entire thing will be livestreamed on YouTube as well, on June 8 at 7pm PDT.

Death Stranding 2 is the long-awaited sequel to Kojima Productions’ first game, and Kojima’s first release after splitting with Konami. While there are a lot of elements of his past work, Death Stranding is pretty unique in how its gameplay revolves around methodically delivering items as a “porter” in a post-apocalyptic world.

The sequel, once again, follows the story of Sam Bridges, set years after the United Colonies of America were reconnected using the Chiral Network. Now, a new apocalyptic threat has risen, and begs the question: should humanity have stayed separated in this post-apocalyptic world?

Kojima also announced this week that Death Stranding would be getting an anime adaption on top of its live-action film adaptation from A24.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launches on June 26 for PS5.
