Bungie has taken to social media today to announce they’re delaying the next major content update for Destiny 2, and it will now release in June 2026.
Bungie has announced that the upcoming Destiny 2 content update, Shadow and Order, is not only getting delayed by three months, but it’s also going to be renamed. This is all in the name of supposed quality of life updates. It is worth mentioning that the other Bungie title, Marathon, is set to launch on March 5, only two days after the formerly scheduled Destiny 2 content update release date of March 3.
Fans expressed cynicism on forums like Reddit that Bungie would release both the new update and Marathon at the same time, and Destiny 2 ended up getting pushed back. The Shadow and Order update was initially intended as a major addition to the Renegades expansion, and was announced in May 2025 as part of the Year of Prophecy roadmap (with the Edge of Fate expansion). The entire social media post explaining Bungie’s decision to delay the expansion can be seen below.
The post reads, “This update is being changed and expanded to include sizable quality-of-life updates and as a result, will also be renamed. This update will now launch on June 9, 2026. We will provide exact details closer to release, covering previously announced Weapon Tier Upgrading, but also additions like expanding Tiered Gear to all Raid and Dungeon activities, Pantheon 2.0, Tier 5 stats for Exotic Armours, and more.” For more information on what’s going to be included in the expansion, fans will have to wait as we inch closer to the new release date of June 9.
Destiny 2‘s next expansion will no longer be called Shadow and Order, and it will arrive now under a different name on June 9.
