EA and Bloober Team have announced they are working to fix Silent Hill 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor performance issues on the PS5 Pro.
Following the release of the PS5 Pro, some gamers are reporting issues regarding the graphical department and image quality of some games. The two biggest games to be affected are Silent Hill 2 regarding its image quality in performance mode, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor suffering from severe image quality due to the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology in the Performance Mode. With how big the issue is, the Bloober Team and EA have shared on Twitter they are aware of the situation and are currently finding fixes for the issues.
For Silent Hill 2, a Digital Foundry video reported that the game suffered from image stability issues introduced in the latest patch, version 1.05, on the PS5 Pro across both modes, mainly in Performance mode. Digital Foundry noted a visible downgrade in image quality compared to the base PS5 upscaling method (TSR), with increased visual noise, flicker and temporal instability in movement. Other issues mentioned include world reflections in puddles being jittery in the 60 fps Performance mode, and the presentation of Lumen GI used to simulate indirect lighting and shadows, which are affected by shimmering artifacts on shadowed elements.
Shifting to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Digital Foundry reported a severe image quality issue, noting clear shimmering caused by the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology. In the video, there was a side-by-side comparison showing how unstable the game was due to PSSR in Performance mode and a downgrade to the old Performance mode. EA has since claimed they are investigating the problem, stating they are now aware of the issues.
It’s quite a glaring issue on the PS5 Pro, but it’s good to know Bloober Team and EA have commented on the issues regarding Silent Hill 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. It is unknown when the patches will roll out, but hopefully, they will eliminate the technical issues when the time comes.
