After speculation and teasers, an announcement today confirmed that there will be an Elden Ring live-action film and it will be from A24 and Director Alex Garland.
With a new Elden Ring spin-off title set to launch in just a week (Nightreign), FromSoftware and A24 productions have joined forces to bring fans an exciting announcement, there will be an Elden Ring live-action film. The announcement comes from Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and A24, and the collaboration has already chosen Director Alex Garland for writing and director duties.

Alex Garland is known for his work on previous video game projects, as he has served as a writer for both DmC: Devil May Cry and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West while also serving as director for Annihilation, Ex Machina, and Warfare. Alex Garland has had experience exploring dystopian worlds as well (28 Days Later) making him an experienced voice coming from video games as well as film. FromSoftware’s Elden Ring won GOTY honours at the Game Awards in 2022 and has remained one of the most popular games since it launched. SteamCharts has its peak listed as over 950,000 concurrent players on just the Steam platform alone.

As with the FromSoftware video game, Game of Thrones writer, George R.R. Martin is attached as a producer on the film, alongside Vince Gerardis. The film will also be produced by Peter Rice alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA. It remains to be seen whether any FromSoftware personnel will be involved with the film, including game director Hidetaka Miyazaki. FromSoftware was notably not involved with Prime Video’s Secret Level episode based on Armored Core, so it’s possible they may also choose to be hands-off with the Elden Ring adaptation.
Elden Ring has yet to announce any casting choices, plot details or anything else beyond the film’s confirmation and production studio. CGMagazine will keep readers informed on further developments regarding the Elden Ring film adaptation.
