The spin-off multiplayer-based FromSoftware title, Elden Ring Nightreign, officially launches today, and fans should note it has already surpassed two million units sold. CGMagazine’s review of Nightreign calls it “an absolute blast” provided teamwork is utilized properly in-game. The review also says, “Elden Ring Nightreign won’t be for everyone, but for those willing to embrace the madness, it delivers a thrilling, unforgettable ride through a nightmare realm of remixed legends.” Nightreign turns the core mechanics of FromSoftware souls-like titles on its head.

Elden Ring Nightreign asks players to forget most of what they’ve learned playing souls-like titles to team up as Nightfarers selected from a group of characters (rather than created characters), and fend off a three day-and-night cycle filled with dangerous challenges in Limveld. It’s even possible to run into adversaries from other FromSoftware titles, like The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3. One thing appears abundantly clear during a Nightreign run: no two dives will be the same, and that may be why the gaming universe is singing its praises from a critical reception standpoint.

Currently, Elden Ring Nightreign is topping the charts over on Steam, landing as #1 on the “Top Selling” list, and #4 on “Most Played” concurrently. On just the Steam platform, Elden Ring Nightreign has over 273,000 players in-game as this article posts. It’s worth mentioning although the critical reception has been kind to Nightreign with a “Generally Favourable” 77% on Metacritic, fan reception has been mixed on Steam, citing lack of truly new content, reliance on poor communication and limited progression as some of the reasons why fans aren’t as favourable towards Nightreign as critical response is.
Elden Ring Nightreign is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
